U.S. Army Pacific Announces Transfer of 17 Strykers to Royal Thai Army at
Hanuman Guardian 2026 Closing Ceremony
LOP BURI, Thailand – March 20, 2026 — The U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC) today
ceremonially transferred 17 Stryker armored vehicles to the Royal Thai Army
(RTA) during the closing ceremony of Exercise Hanuman Guardian 2026.
The event, held at the Royal Thai Army Aviation Center in Lopburi, was
attended by senior leaders from both nations, including LTG Joel Vowell,
USARPAC Deputy Commander; General Pana Claewplodtook, Royal Thai Army
Commander-in-Chief; and Sean K. O’Neill, U.S. Ambassador to Thailand.
This transfer, conducted under the U.S. Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program,
marks a significant milestone in the U.S.-Thai defense partnership. These
vehicles, previously operated by U.S. Army units and meticulously maintained,
will enhance the RTA’s operational capabilities and support Thailand’s ongoing
military modernization.
The 17 Strykers, once delivered, will form the foundation of the RTA’s 111th
Stryker Regiment Combat Team, supporting both training and operational
missions.
General Ronald Clark, USARPAC Commanding General, underscored the strategic
importance of the U.S.-Thai alliance: “The U.S.-Thai alliance is a cornerstone
of regional stability and security, and this Stryker transfer is a clear
demonstration of our enduring commitment to our allies and partners.
It’s about more than just equipment – it’s about strengthening relationships,
building trust, and enhancing capabilities that deter aggression and address
emerging challenges.
By modernizing and enhancing the Royal Thai Army’s capabilities, we’re not
just improving readiness; we’re reinforcing the collective ability of our
nations to ensure partnerships are valued, sovereignty is respected, and peace
is preserved.”
Ambassador O’Neill also addressed future benefits resulting from the transfer,
such as potential new infrastructure to support the transferred Strykers
“This [infrastructure] would ensure long-term readiness of the Stryker fleet
and create substantial economic opportunities for both our countries: it will
create jobs and advance military and commercial capabilities that benefit both
our countries.
This investment would position Thailand as a regional leader in defense
sustainment and innovation. I am excited to see new opportunities for U.S.
companies to collaborate with Thai partners. This is a model example of a
defense partnership that benefits both countries.”
Exercise Hanuman Guardian 2026, a joint U.S.-Thai military exercise, remains a
cornerstone of bilateral defense cooperation.
This year’s iteration featured a range of training activities, from live-fire
exercises to cultural exchanges, fostering mutual understanding and
strengthening the bonds between U.S. and Thai service members. The Stryker
transfer at the closing ceremony underscores the shared achievements and
future aspirations of both armies.
